Indian Expats in USA aims to provide a useful and trustworthy place for members of the community to discover businesses, products, and services.
These guidelines explain what we expect from businesses that create listings and from users who submit reviews or other content on IndianExpatsInUSA.com.
1. Listing Guidelines
Businesses are responsible for ensuring that their listings accurately represent their business and the products or services they provide.
Listings should:
- Use the actual business or professional name.
- Select the most appropriate primary category and subcategory.
- Describe products and services accurately.
- Provide current and accurate contact information.
- Clearly indicate relevant service delivery options, such as online or in-person availability.
- Use photographs, logos, and other content that the business owns or has permission to use.
- Keep material information reasonably current.
- Comply with applicable laws and regulations.
Listings should not:
- Contain false, deceptive, or materially misleading claims.
- Impersonate another business or individual.
- Use another party’s photographs, logos, trademarks, or content without permission.
- Promote illegal products, services, or activities.
- Contain spam, irrelevant keyword stuffing, or intentionally misleading categorization.
- Redirect users to deceptive or unrelated websites.
- Include content that is threatening, hateful, harassing, obscene, or otherwise inappropriate for the platform.
2. Categories and Services Offered
Businesses should choose the subcategory that best represents their primary product or service as their listing category.
Where available, businesses may also select additional relevant services offered within the applicable category.
Businesses should not select unrelated categories or services solely to appear in additional search results.
Indian Expats in USA may correct or request changes to categorization when necessary to keep the directory organized and useful.
3. One Business, Appropriate Listings
Businesses should avoid creating duplicate listings for substantially the same offering simply to gain additional visibility.
Where a listing can reasonably represent multiple related services within the same category, businesses should use the available listing fields rather than creating unnecessary duplicate listings.
Separate listings may be appropriate when a business offers materially different products or services that belong in different categories.
4. Featured Listings
Some businesses may purchase or otherwise qualify for featured placement.
Featured listings may receive additional visibility, prominent placement, or a featured indicator.
Featured status does not mean that Indian Expats in USA endorses, certifies, guarantees, or recommends that business over other businesses.
Businesses may not describe themselves as “approved,” “certified,” “verified,” or “recommended” by Indian Expats in USA solely because they have a paid or featured listing.
5. Reviews Should Reflect Genuine Experiences
Reviews should be based on a genuine experience or interaction with the business being reviewed.
A useful review describes the reviewer’s actual experience and provides information that may help other community members make informed decisions.
A review does not have to be positive. Constructive negative reviews are permitted when they reflect a genuine experience and comply with these guidelines.
6. Fake or Manipulated Reviews
The following are not permitted:
- Reviews submitted by someone who did not have a genuine experience or interaction with the business.
- Reviews created using fake or duplicate accounts.
- Businesses reviewing themselves.
- Business owners, employees, representatives, family members, or others submitting reviews while pretending to be independent customers.
- Competitors submitting false or malicious reviews intended to damage another business.
- Coordinated attempts to artificially increase or decrease a business’s rating.
- Offering incentives specifically in exchange for a predetermined positive rating or misleading review.
- Threatening a business with a negative review in order to obtain money, free products, refunds, discounts, or other benefits.
7. Businesses May Ask Customers for Reviews
Businesses may invite genuine customers to leave reviews.
However, businesses should not attempt to control what a customer says or require a positive review.
Businesses should also avoid practices designed to selectively solicit only positive reviews while intentionally discouraging customers with negative experiences from providing feedback.
8. Negative Reviews
A business may disagree with a review, but disagreement alone is not grounds for removal.
We generally will not remove a review simply because:
- It is negative;
- The business disagrees with the reviewer’s opinion;
- The business believes the rating is unfair; or
- The review describes an unfavorable customer experience.
However, reviews may be investigated when there is reason to believe they are fake, fraudulent, abusive, unrelated to a genuine interaction, or otherwise violate these guidelines.
9. What Reviews Should Not Contain
Reviews should not include:
- Knowingly false statements presented as facts.
- Threats, harassment, or discriminatory abuse.
- Personal attacks unrelated to the business experience.
- Private or sensitive personal information.
- Spam or unrelated promotional content.
- Content copied from another source without permission.
- Illegal content.
- Attempts to manipulate or extort a business.
Users should focus reviews on their relevant experience with the business, product, or service.
10. Reporting a Listing or Review
Users and businesses may report listings or reviews that they believe violate these guidelines.
When submitting a report, provide enough information for us to understand the concern. We may request additional information where appropriate.
Submitting a report does not guarantee removal of the listing or review.
11. Review and Moderation
Indian Expats in USA may review reported content and consider available information when deciding whether action is appropriate.
Depending on the circumstances, we may:
- Leave the content unchanged;
- Request clarification or corrections;
- Edit administrative or categorization information;
- Restrict visibility;
- Remove a review or listing;
- Warn a user or business;
- Suspend or terminate an account; or
- Take other reasonable action to protect the platform and its users.
We are not obligated to independently investigate or verify every factual dispute between a customer and a business.
12. Evidence and Disputes
When a review or listing is disputed, we may request information reasonably relevant to determining whether the content complies with these guidelines.
For example, this might include information showing that an interaction or transaction occurred.
Users should not publicly post sensitive documents, payment information, identification numbers, private addresses, or other confidential information in a review.
Providing requested information does not guarantee a particular moderation decision.
13. Business Responses
If functionality is available, businesses may respond to reviews.
Responses should remain professional and should address the substance of the customer’s experience without harassment, threats, retaliation, or disclosure of private customer information.
Businesses may explain their perspective or describe steps taken to address an issue.
14. Listing Removal or Suspension
Indian Expats in USA may remove, suspend, or restrict a listing when we reasonably believe that:
- The listing contains materially false or misleading information;
- The business cannot reasonably be identified;
- The listing violates these guidelines or our Terms of Use;
- The listing promotes unlawful activity;
- There is evidence of fraud, spam, impersonation, or review manipulation;
- Required listing fees have not been paid;
- Continued publication could create material risk for users or the platform; or
- Removal is otherwise reasonably necessary to maintain the integrity of the directory.
Payment for a listing does not prevent Indian Expats in USA from taking moderation action when appropriate.
15. No Endorsement
The presence of a business on IndianExpatsInUSA.com does not constitute an endorsement or guarantee by Indian Expats in USA.
Likewise, ratings and reviews represent the opinions or experiences of users and should not be interpreted as statements or guarantees by Indian Expats in USA.
Users should exercise their own judgment when choosing a business or completing a transaction.
16. Updates to These Guidelines
We may update these guidelines as the marketplace evolves, new features are introduced, or additional moderation issues arise.
The effective date at the top of this page will be updated when appropriate.
